About Ultimate
Ultimate is a flying disc team sport played on a grass or turf field with end zones. Teams advance the disc with aerodynamic throws, with one point scored for each catch in the end zone. In games to 15, the athletes must possess an incredible combination of endurance, speed, agility, technique, and teamwork combined with a strong commitment to fair play in top competition without referees. This timely variation on sport reflects the importance of self-restraint. The athletes must arbitrate their own calls in the heat of competition using a refined system of rules. Invented in 1968, organized competition now takes place on six continents.
Yet the simplicity of the rules means it’s easy and fun for newcomers to pick up.
GUPA
Guelph Ultimate Players Association, or GUPA for short, is a non-profit, volunteer run Ultimate (Frisbee) organization founded in 2003. GUPA is involved with promoting Ultimate at all levels within, and around, the city of Guelph. GUPA representatives sit on the Provincial Sports Authority for Ultimate as members-directors. GUPA is recognized by the National governing body for Ultimate, Canadian Ultimate Players Association (CUPA), as the governing body for Ultimate in Guelph. GUPA incorporated as a not-for-profit in 2005.
GUPA runs Adult Ultimate leagues throughout the year. Spring, Summer and Fall on outdoor fields, and late fall and winter leagues indoors. We also hold 2 tournaments, the Soggy Bottom Bowl in May, and a Charity Hat tournament later in the summer.
